Nylon PA6
Nylon PA6 (Polyamide 6), also known as polycaprolactam, is a semi-crystalline engineering thermoplastic widely recognized for its outstanding mechanical performance. Developed from the ring-opening polymerization of caprolactam, PA6 offers an exceptional combination of strength, toughness, wear resistance, and self-lubricating properties that make it a preferred material for gears, bearings, and structural components across virtually every engineering sector. Its moisture absorption capacity — which can reach 9.5% by weight under equilibrium conditions — is a double-edged sword: while it enables good dimensional stability in humid environments, engineers must account for property variations when designing PA6 parts.

🟢 Good electrical insulating properties; suitable for electrical enclosure and connector applications
🟢 Naturally white/opaque; accepts colorants and additives readily for custom formulations
Machining & Manufacturing
| Parameter | Specification | Notes |
| Cutting Speed | Turning: 200–400 m/minMilling: 800–1,500 RPM (Ø6–Ø16 mm end mills) | - |
| Tooling | Carbide/PCD tools for mass production; HSS tools for prototyping | Use sharp, polished edges and positive rake angles to avoid material sticking |
| Coolant | Water-soluble oil flood coolant recommended | Dry machining is feasible, coolant prolongs tool life; adopt through-spindle coolant for deep drilling and tapping |
| Chip Control | Long continuous chips normally | Increase feed rate or use chip breakers; ensure thorough chip removal to prevent recutting |
| Surface Finish | Turning: Ra 0.4–0.8 μmMilling: Ra 1.0–2.0 μm | Use reliable clamping and fixturing to avoid deformation and guarantee dimensional accuracy |
| Note | / | Material absorbs moisture easily. Store finished parts dry or re-dry before assembly for tight tolerance work |
