Aluminum 6082-T6
Aluminum 6082-T6 is the dominant structural aluminum alloy in European and international markets, offering a compelling combination of high strength, excellent machinability, and good corrosion resistance. Classified as a heat-treatable alloy in the 6xxx series, 6082-T6 delivers superior structural performance through careful silicon and magnesium alloying. It is the European counterpart to the North American 6061 alloy but generally achieves higher strength in extruded and plate forms, making it the preferred choice for architectural structures, transportation frames, and heavy-duty engineering applications worldwide.

Advantages
- Highest strength among 6xxx series alloys — comparable to 6061 but typically achieves 10–20% higher tensile and yield strength in extruded forms
- Excellent machinability — one of the most machinable aluminum alloys; produces clean chips, excellent surface finish, and consistent tool life
- Outstanding thermal conductivity — 180 W/m·K is the highest among the six aluminum alloys covered here; ideal for heat sinks, manifolds, and thermal management components
- Good corrosion resistance — excellent resistance to atmospheric and marine corrosion; responds well to anodizing and protective coatings
Machining & Manufacturing
| Parameter | Specification | Notes |
| Cutting Speed | Roughing: 900–1,600 SFM (275–490 m/min)Finishing: 1,200–2,200 SFM (365–670 m/min) | Features one of the highest cutting speeds among aluminum alloys |
| Feed Rate | 0.006–0.020 ipt (0.15–0.51 mm/rev) | Slightly higher feeds are allowed thanks to good chip formation |
| Tooling | Uncoated or TiAlN coated carbide end mills; HSS drills and taps for hole machining | Low tendency of BUE |
| Coolant | Conventional water-soluble cutting fluid | Flood cooling for superior surface finish and tool life; mist cooling works for light roughing |
| Chip Control | Short fragmented chips with good evacuation | 10–15° positive rake angles recommended; silver to light gold chip color is normal, dark blue means overheating |
| Difficulty Level | Easy | Machinist-friendly alloy, ideal for high-volume CNC production |
